1.1 The Wrong Affection for the Money
The
love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. The Greek word translated “Love
of Money” (Philarguria) means
“affection for silver.” Apostle Paul is discussing an attitude about money, not
money itself. There is nothing inherently wrong with money. Paul is talking
about the sin of greed. He says that the love of money is the “root”- the
source of all kinds of evil. Money is something important in human mind which
set aside from the God which hindrance to serve God. Therefore in Matthew 6:24,
Jesus compare Living God with non-living being money, “you cannot love and
serve both God and money.”[1]
